So You Think You Know Comic-Con?

In anticipation of this year’s in-person return of Comic-Con, I thought it would be a good primer to look back at some of the best activations of years past. Admittedly, I am a Sci-Fi geek, and I wear that badge with pride. My parents religiously watched Capt. Kirk and his crew explore the great beyond and pondered the psyche behind Talking Tina ala The Original Twilight Zone. I on other hand was a true believer in the force, my first weapon was a light saber, and yes, I rocked the Princess Leia buns. I also couldn’t understand why Kryptonite wasn’t included in the periodic chart?

Anyway, as I look forward to what is to come this July 21st-24th at the 52nd Annual Comic-Con International in San Diego, I thought it would be fun to recall some of the “Best In Show” from the last few years. In this blog, Hollywood Branded shares our favorite brand activations at Comic-Con San Diego in the last 5 years.

Countdown to Comic-Con 2022

It's a bird? It's a plane? It's a Ferrari?

In 2019 Ripley's believe it or not had their host Bruce Campbell, host an activation, in the form of a car show in a parking lot. Simply heaven for a girl who grew up making license plate frames at classic car shows. The strangest things you could imagine cars could be made of from a full whittled wood version of a Ferrari, a gorgeous Stiletto to a Hummer made of lottery tickets!blog images

Girl Power - WB & DC Style

So for all of us out there who are so excited to see more women in comics all around the world - Harley Quinn played a big big part of 2019. For the first time Warner Brothers actually partnered with their sister company DC and created a combined two story 6500 square foot booth produced by Vision Events.  It had everything from a Harley Quinn inspired space where you could actually enter the Arkham Asylum to also being able to peek at the DC Comics. The countdown is on to see what's in store for 2022!

Beam Me Up!

Of course I had to include Star Trek in my favorites.  CBS All Access and the Star Trek Universe did not disappoint! Partnering with the Visionary Group they built a mock-up paying homage to the U.S.S. Discovery. It was pretty amazing! They incorporated special props and collectibles, as well as bonus treasures hidden throughout the space.  No Trek experience would be complete without a simulated transporter!  The pièce de résistance, fan favorites -  Patrick Stewart, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, and David Ajala all made appearances.
