From Startup Sparks to Adult Ambitions

Eighteen years ago, I birthed a business. Like any proud parent, I had no idea what I was really in for. There were the toddler years - all big ideas, no budget, and a tendency to run into walls at full speed. Then came the awkward middle school phase - trying on every “look” to see what fit, saying yes to too many things, and learning that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

By the teenage rebellion stage, we’d found our voice - and learned how to say “no” to bad partnerships, bad fits, and bad vibes. We stopped trying to please everyone and focused on building the kinds of relationships and campaigns that actually mattered and moved the needle in big ways for brands. In this article, Hollywood Branded shares the biggest lessons from 18 years in business, and what’s next for building brands that can’t be ignored.

The Early Years: Big Dreams, Small Budgets

When Hollywood Branded was born, it was a one-woman shop with a laptop, a phone, and a fierce belief that entertainment could be a game-changer for brands. In the “toddler” phase of business, there was no playbook - just late nights, a lot of trial and error, and a willingness to learn from every wrong turn.

Every dollar was stretched to the limit. Every client was a chance to prove that creativity could outperform big budgets. And while there were moments of doubt (and more than a few “what have I gotten myself into” days), each hurdle became a building block. I learned that in business, you can’t wait for perfect conditions - you have to build with what you have.

Finding Our Voice: Saying No to the Wrong Yes

The middle years of the agency were our “identity search” phase. We tried everything - every client, every idea, every partnership - until we realized that just because we could do something didn’t mean we should. Saying yes to everyone diluted our focus and, more importantly, our impact.

The turning point came when we started filtering every opportunity through our values. Was it a good fit? Was the partnership mutually beneficial? Would it move the needle for both the client and the agency? Learning to say “no” was powerful - it allowed us to focus on high-quality relationships that aligned with our expertise and vision. That’s when our reputation shifted from “agency that can do anything” to “agency that delivers exactly what your brand needs in entertainment.”

Growth & Grit: Scaling Without Losing Soul

From scrappy beginnings, we’ve grown into a global agency that has:

  • Forged 10,000+ brand partnerships with 250+ unique brands

  • Generated over $100 million in partnerships from scratch, created $1+ billion in new revenue for brand partners, and unlocked $1+ trillion in media value

  • Collaborated on 5,000+ productions, executed 600+ licensing/PR alliances, and rocked 500+ gaming and digital content partnerships

  • Published 2,000+ blog articles and hosted 400+ podcast episodes of Marketing Mistakes (+ How to Avoid Them)

Those numbers aren’t just metrics - they’re proof that grit, creativity, and relentless focus can build something extraordinary. But none of this growth came without challenges.

Hollywood isn’t always kind. We’ve weathered strikes, trolls, scams, market swings, and plenty of “you can’t do that” moments. Each obstacle became fuel to innovate and adapt. And as a woman founder in an industry that often underestimates independent agencies, I’ve learned that resilience isn’t optional - it’s the foundation.

Partners, People & Pawprints: Building a Legacy Together

Hollywood Branded is what it is because of its people - and that includes the four-legged ones.

To my team: you’re the ride-or-die crew every 18-year-old wishes they had - brilliant, loyal, and willing to pull off the impossible with a smile. You’ve turned wild ideas into reality, challenges into opportunities, and kept our work anchored in both creativity and strategy.

To our clients and partners: you’ve trusted us with your brands, your big ideas, and your boldest moves. Together, we’ve built campaigns that not only connect with audiences but also shape culture.

And then there’s our canine “staff.” Sadie joined in 2010 as our original Chief Welcome Officer, greeting everyone with warmth and perfectly timed tail wags. Leia arrived in 2013 - a cocker spaniel with a knack for snack patrol and meeting naps. They were more than pets; they were part of the heartbeat of our agency. We lost Sadie in 2020, and Leia just this past week. Their pawprints are forever part of Hollywood Branded’s DNA.

Today, Luna and Indy carry on the tradition, reminding us daily that joy belongs in the work we do -  and that a little mischief makes everything better.

The Road Ahead: Ready for the Next Big Stage

At 18, we’re ready for bigger stages, bolder moves, and deeper impact. The road to LA 2028 is already calling, and we plan to make it our playground. Over the next few years, we’ll work with top Hollywood productions, create campaigns for brands looking for more than just a logo placement, and build integrations that audiences remember long after the credits roll.

Our mission hasn’t changed - to make brands impossible to miss in the world’s most talked-about entertainment. The only difference now? We’re sharper, more confident, and more ready than ever to lead the way.
