Interview Transcript Highlights

Stacy: And so for our listeners here, who are like scratching their heads going. Huh! Kevin? I, too, do not really know what SEO is. Can you give us a brief description of what is it and what it means when you say you do SEO?

Kevin: To rank higher for a specific keyword on search engines, particularly Google, you need to optimize your page using SEO principles. The two core principles are usability and relevance. Google rewards websites that offer good usability, ensuring they work well on mobile, have SSL security, and load quickly. This way, users won't get frustrated and leave.

Relevance is equally important. Google aims to provide the most relevant page for a given keyword, not just any website. For example, if you search for "basketball," Google will show the most relevant page, like Wikipedia's comprehensive basketball page, which covers its history, scoring, famous players like LeBron James and Michael Jordan, and related links.

By focusing on usability and relevance, your SEO efforts will align with Google's priorities, improving your chances of ranking higher in search results.

Stacy: So when you're working with someone, what is the first step that you do with them? Besides figuring out what are the words that they're looking to rank for.

Kevin: If clients already know the keywords they want to rank for, we begin with an analysis to determine the required effort for achieving higher rankings. We estimate the work involved and the associated costs. Typically, it takes several months to see results, and payment is made upon reaching the desired ranking.

However, if clients are unsure about their keyword phrases, we can use tools like Ahrefs or Google Trends to identify suitable keywords. For those who don't wish to commit to an SEO campaign right away, we suggest a Google Adwords campaign. With Adwords, they can quickly get on page one and assess if ranking for that keyword brings invaluable business within hours.

Stacy: Okay and where do people go wrong with this, like other SEO companies or people trying to do this themselves? Is it that they think that this is going to happen overnight, which we know doesn't happen? Or is it, do they go too big in trying to rank for the same word on multiple pages on their site or what do people kind of do?

Kevin: Achieving high rankings in SEO doesn't happen overnight; it takes time and effort. The fastest we've been able to rank a page is around weeks, but even that is a rare case. When we handle the work directly without going through an approval process, it can speed up the process. Google takes time to recognize links and other factors, so instant results are not feasible.

One common mistake people make is getting fixated on the latest and trendiest SEO tactics they come across. Instead of chasing every new technique, it's essential to focus on proven strategies that align with your specific goals.

Stacy: How else are you using AI at your agency right now?

Kevin: I've been experimenting with AI-generated videos to avoid the need for me to appear in them since I'm not great at video creation. I used a tool called "Cynthia" or "Synthesis S.I.O" (not sure about the correct name), which utilizes real people's recordings, almost like casts. I found this tool helpful for creating videos without having to hire actors. For instance, when you search for "Geo fencing agency" on Google, our page ranks number one, and the woman speaking in the video is entirely AI-generated; I don't know who she is.

Using voice automation, I simply wrote the script and had the AI generate a person speaking within minutes. Though it's not perfect, I chose the person based on how well their mouth movements matched the audio. The video's effectiveness can be improved by making it smaller, as this enhances the illusion of realistic mouth movements.

Stacy: So for all of our listeners out there, what would your suggestions be? How do they step forward in seizing the moment for blogging and writing?

Kevin: If you haven't tried ChatGPT, give it a shot! It's a great tool to overcome writer's block as it can provide helpful suggestions. Even if the initial output isn't precisely what you want, you'll likely find useful ideas to work with and expand upon.

When aiming to rank for specific keywords, it's essential to choose your relevance wisely. Avoid writing just for the sake of producing content. With the vast amount of data on the Internet, adding more without a clear purpose won't make a significant difference. Instead, draw a line in the sand and decide what you want to rank for. Then, focus on creating relevant and valuable content around that chosen topic.
