How Music Marketing Licensing Can Be As Influential In Ads As Celebrity Endorsements

Music has always been an important part of advertising and marketing. From product placement in music videos, to tour sponsorships, to becoming the driving force of a TV or radio spot, music can drive both a marketing campaign and resulting consumer engagement through the roof.

In the latest top digitally engaging ads (measured by number of online views and social interactions), brands do just that with music from The Black Keys, The Youngbloods and Neil Diamond. In this blog, Hollywood Branded looks at top performing ads and how popular songs in commercials are used to increase consumer engagement for the brand marketing campaigns.

Walmart - The Youngbloods and Bill Withers

"Get Together" by The Youngbloods is an instantly recognizable song and perfectly sets the backdrop for this heartwarming spot from Walmart. The song plays as people from all over grab chairs and head to one big table.

The song perfectly sets the mood for a brand that is following a common marketing trend - the idea of all people coming together. The song is what makes this spot work.

Walmart has definitely been using feel good songs to drive their campaigns. And they had a double whammy this week.

The Music For Marketing Your Brand By Generation

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Wal Mart just released this spot to the classic tune "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers to advertise that the chain will be doubling each donation given to the Red Cross through Walmart. Try not to cry at this one.

Samsung - The Black Keys

The Black Keys have dominated both the pop and rock scene for almost a decade now, providing a crossover sound that everyone can love. Their music has been featured in multiple campaigns, but this one fits perfectly over the the Samsung Galaxy. And with 6.2 million views on its YouTube ad, fans seem to agree.

Hyundai - Neil Diamond

Perhaps the most sing-along-able song of all time is "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. And Hyundai uses this to its full advantage in their new spot titled "Duet."

In this spot, a man driving a Sonata belts the chorus while sitting in traffic. After getting noticably odd looks from everyone he passses, a fellow Sonata driver looks over and happily joins in.

Feel good is a tried and true way to go and music is always a winner in that category. Plus, the car is named the "Sonata" after all!
