TikTok: The Hub of Pop-Culture

You’ve heard us mention TikTok countless times. In fact, you may be sick of it (and we get it if you are). But, the reality is, is that is that it’s one of the top, social media apps, and a key player in pop-culture. TikTok makes Instagram look like old news.

Part of the reason as to why TikTok is so great (and heavily favored by its users), is that it’s so much easier to go viral and garner a following, compared to any other app. Because of this, TikTok has helped skyrocket a number of individuals into worldwide fame, gaining them millions of fans (and dollars!) and numerous sponsorships. In this blog, Hollywood Branded shares which users are the most followed on TikTok and how these stars have leveraged their social media fame.

The Most Followed On TikTok

1. Charli D'Amelio

Unsurprisingly, first on the list is Miss Charli D’Amelio—the Queen of TikTok. She has almost 127 million followers on the app. The seventeen-year-old is well-known for her dancing skills, and acting as a catalyst to make a number of dance trends go viral. The star has partaken in countless brand partnerships, with companies as influential as Morphe, Dunkin', EOS, and more.

2. Khaby Lame

The Sengalese-Italian TikToker is second on our list. He is known for his silent, deadpan reactions to viral videos that feature strange “hacks” and “how to’s.” (Check out some of his videos below). He has about 117 million followers on TikTok, and like many others, his internet fame is all thanks to the app. Since making-it-big, he has collaborated with a number of top-name brands such as BOSS, Amazon Prime, and the Italian pasta maker, Barilla.

New call-to-action

3. Addison Rae

The Louisiana native is third on our list, and she has about 85 million followers. She is one of the most talked-about TikTokers, and is currently building a career in music, beauty, and film to extend herself beyond the app. There is no denying that she is an expert in all things social media, and leveraging the platform, as she managed to collaborate with brands as big as American Eagle, Pandora, Nintendo, and more.

4. Bella Poarch

The Fillipino mega-star and Navy Veteran also found her fame on TikTok, and has almost 85 million followers on the app. Her break-through video was a lip-sync to “Sophie Aspin Send” by Millie B. She is well-known for anime-esque aesthetic, and cartoon-like movements. She has leveraged internet fame to cross-over into the world of music. This year, she’s already released two songs titled “INFERNO” and “Build A Bitch;” the first song has attained a little over 55 million Spotify streams, while the second has almost 246. Out of the all the A-list TikTok-stars-turned-singers, Bella has arguably made the most successful transition. Poarch has also collabed with a number of brands, such as Prada, Crocs, and more.

5. Zach King

King is no stranger to internet fame. He was a top-creator on the now defunct social media app, Vine (which followed a format similar to TikTok). By 2015, he had almost 3.5 million followers. In 2016, he posted his first video on Musical.ly, which we now know as TikTok. Today, he has 66 million followers. He is known for his incredibly fifteen-second video illusions. He has collaborated with brands such as Lunchables and Credit Karma, and his sponsored videos are just as quirky and creative as his day-to-day content (which makes him an awesome brand partner). Like many other TikTok stars, he also creates videos on a a handful of other platforms, such as YouTube and Twitch.

6. Will Smith

Considering that Will Smith is a Hollywood legend, it’s no surprise that he has such a large following on the app—62.4 million. Of course, most celebs do, regardless of whether or not they really post on TikTok. That being said, Smith doesn’t post regularly on the app, and we don’t see him partake in many trends (if any, at all). Recently, he’s been leveraging the app to publicize his autography Will.

7. TikTok

Unsurprisingly, TikTok is the 7th most followed on our list; the app’s account is followed by almost 60 million users. On their account, they will frequently partake in TikTok trends, post about holidays or heritage months, or highlight some of their top creators.

(If you're confused about the chair video, the joke is that many users decided to start using the chair emoji in place of the laughing emoji. The reasoning behind why? Well, I have no idea.)
