    What Qualifies As Product Placement?

    Calling all brand marketers! It's no secret that product placement has been strongly prevalent in television episodes since the days of Milton Berle’s Texaco Star Theater, and even existing as far back as the 1920s. Traditional forms of product placement saw characters eating food from branded packaging, driving branded cars, and using branded cell phones.

    All of these types of depictions qualify as product placement, and served (and still do serve!) to influence and engage the viewing consumer in a way that traditional advertising just never has – by giving the brand star power lift. In the last decade, product placement has been ‘pumped up’ by national ad sales departments at major networks, with a storyline built into a show – a-la Oreos in Modern Family – supported by commercials which run during the content.

    No stranger to new and exciting ventures, Ellen DeGeneres has released a smartphone app for The Ellen Show.

    Earlier this year we were introduced to the LeBron James smartphone app for Samsung Galaxy. We quickly realized that LeBron’s app would be the first of many celebrity apps to sweep across our smart devices and give us the power to connect directly with their brand. It comes as no surprise to see that Ellen DeGeneres has followed suit with her very own app geared toward The Ellen Show fans.

    The Hollywood Branded Team Weighs in on New Netflix Shows!

    A New Year Of Netflix

    This week Netflix announced several new shows for television and streaming video on demand that will be airing over the up-and-coming weeks including the debut of the acclaimed 2013 comedy “In a World…” Also premiering will be the full seasons of “Supernatural,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “The Following.”

    Netflix has also introduced HGTV and The Food Network series, including “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations,” “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” “House Hunters,” and “Property Brothers.”
    To get into the fall series premiere spirit, members of the Hollywood Branded office shared the shows they’re looking forward to watching from the selection available on Netflix.
